Nightshades of New Orleans Reviews

As I was reading the book, Stephen King came to mind. Of course, no two authors are the same but the talent and the quality of the reading experience for me are on that same level. James Quinn’s ability to evoke fear that affects every part of you is a gift he gives readers generously and competently. The relevance to the human condition is skillfully deep: a father hoping against hope for his daughter, Baby Sue; a mother waiting for his son Evan to come home; a friend desperately looking for her friend, Charlotte; a geneticist going against all odds to create the human being of his dreams; and so on and so forth. The rest is for you to find out and revel at.

A first-class novel that is deserving of more than just a 5-star rating.

A fresh, horrifying perspective you’ve never read about before. How the story unfolds from page to page is a revelation I look forward to in this novel by Quinn. If I could just speed it up I would – that is how exciting it is. But then you are on a page, you will also savor every bit.You do not get lost in the story or in the characters in any way because it is told in a deeply enthralling manner. The way it is pieced together is simply clever. An extremely interesting antagonist for me is Max Gould. He has a twin brother Teddy and together they were apprehended for a terrible crime and diagnosed as psychotics by Dr. Roth. But only Teddy was caught and incarcerated. Max’s freedom meant other people’s abduction and harm. Oh, and he is a proud vampire. You must read!

Just by the first sentence in a novel, you can already tell how good a book can be and I must say, this is extremely impressive. You know what they say, that you don’t have to taste a whole jar of caviar to know how good it is? Well, this beyond good because it is rad!

I have a family though that I have been following closely in this book: they are the Tasker’s, a rich Southern family. Hugh and Claire Tasker are parents to Roxanne and her sister Delia. I particularly like Roxanne because even if on the outside she appears to be a disobedient young lady, inside, she is a caring friend to Alice and Charlotte. Instinctively, she knew there was something wrong about the sanitarium that her father sent her sister Delia to and I liked it that she was fearless enough in wanting to get her out of there. Meanwhile, Hugh as a father seems to be only doing what’s best for his daughter but parents have this tendency to see only their perspective and that is when their judgment gets clouded when it comes to doing what is truly best for their children.

I didn’t want the story to end but this was really well-written and I urge you to have a go at this book. I’m going to read other books by James Quinn next.

Versatile, holistic, and definitely extraordinary.

For a fiction novel, this is one I have read which covers different genres…and that is also because of that aspect that makes it unique and desirable to read. I see science fiction, action, mystery, historical fiction, thriller, and suspense. The horror seems subtle at the outset but it is actually very horrifying.
Needless to say, I enjoyed it tremendously. What a great work by author James Quinn!

One of the main characters to watch out for is Detective Trevor Howard. Trevor himself is a mysterious character as he is an outsider in New Orleans. He was only brought in to help in the serial killer investigation. He is quite keen though as he observed, “The bite marks on the pharmacist’s corpse were human, most likely that of a small child.” His role is important in this case as he is not as involved in the community as the others in Oakvale – at least in the early part of the story. How his involvement evolves though is a plot development to look forward to.

If they are going to turn this into a movie, I’ll be the first one to line up at the cinemas

Horrifying suspense, compelling drama, detective action. Nightshades of New Orleans is bound to let you enjoy every page.

Defenseless…that is how I exactly felt when I came to know about the vampires. They can attack at any unexpected moment or you can plan an attack against them and still, any wound you will inflict will just completely heal. Thing is, they are not alone, they have their own backup system but when they do strike, you are often alone. What a frightful situation to be in! But the thing that I like about how the author wrote it is that it makes you actually feel and experience it.

That’s why this is a great book to read. Not even movies or other multisensory multimedia can evoke that in you.

While reading this heart-stopping, erotic and fascinating novel, I was blown away by the book’s characters and plot. I wanted to leap into the pages and help Roxanne, Lana, and Kash rescue Evan from the Satanists and their evil master. Nightshades of New Orleans is a sort of combination between the famous series Twilight and Resident Evil. It beautifully engages readers with amazing revelations and prophecy. This is a novel that portrays all aspects of the thrill and excitement, both good and bad, leaving nothing out of the shadows that lurk in each reader’s murky hearts and minds. The role of the minor characters was beautifully woven into the plot to continue a magnificent story that not only tells a theme but also teaches readers important values. What a remarkable book.

Rated this one five stars. James Quinn once again proved to me that his books are worth the read

A fascinating story with interesting characters set in a unique world.

Something dark is going on in New Orleans. Murders piled up everywhere and the whole city was alarmed. Serial killers have been reported to be blood-sucking. A group of young teens headed by Roxanne, accidentally teamed up to defeat the enemy and his allegiance. The beautiful plot twists brought two detectives, Lana and Trevor, to investigate the crimes.

While I enjoy the action and horror within the story, my attention was also fascinated by the beautiful romance between two lovers, Roxanne and Adam. With a great plot twist and well-drawn characters, this one is hard to put down. Readers will find it easy to follow the storyline. The pace is fast, which I liked the most, and is engulfing - highly recommended.

Authoring a vampire sci-fi story is a delicate task to achieve but I daresay that author, James Quinn here has a masterpiece in Nightshades of New Orleans.

The plot opens with Luke and his daughter at the pharmacy. Baby Sue was a seemingly innocent girl until his father’s thoughts reveal his feelings of guilt and getting torn by knowing he needs to feed his daughter no matter the cost…or what human lives can be endangered. Even her mother Myrna grieved at what she became, blaming Luke for bringing her to the institute, “She came home a devilʼs child!” But there is more to be uncovered as the plot thickens and Luke recalls his De Leonne ancestry no matter how much he wants to forget those dark times.

That is just the tip of the iceberg but there is still so much to discover about the darkness that envelopes New Orleans. And I dare you to enter the world of the Nightshades.

Linda Young

Seasoned author, James Quinn has done it again in Nightshades of New Orleans. I first encountered Quinn’s magic in his earlier novel, The Vampire’s Orchids. Aside from the vampire theme as a commonality, I also see consistency in the author’s first-rate storytelling that is fast-paced and never lacking in compelling factors. He definitely knows how to draw his readers into the story as if they are the most important part of it. Well, in my case, reading his books is indeed a treat so I don’t mind my involvement in it.

With Nightshades of New Orleans, I have found a fantastic world for which I became intrigued, scared, inspired, and moved. It is heartwarming and yet heart-wrenching at the same time. Get into the pages of this book and you will confirm these thoughts and feelings to be true.

Yellow eyes, serial killers, blue-blooded Southern families, voodoo queens, and priestesses…Quinn has concocted a massively potent tale in Nightshades of New Orleans.

It is in New Orleans that you will find the tomb of the so-called Voodoo Queen as well as Sante Angeline, the most powerful of the living priestesses. There is also Dr. Roth who has devoted himself to human experiments that lend them recovered from a debilitating disease; that is if the experiment was successful. When it is not, oh well, the creatures escape the sanitarium to do God-knows-what and yes, possibly bring harm to other people.
There is so much that you will uncover as you read the book and I tell you, it won’t be a waste of your precious time.

20

Lina Kelly

There was so much to discover and revelations in this book. There was the history of the South from which I learned a lot from. And there was also lobotomy and electric shock; and how it was used to cure the mentally ill in the past. And of course, there was the horror…raw, of orange eyes, experimental, and evil worship. If you imagine it, it is almost too much to take but at the same time, you cannot also stop yourself from finishing the book. The enigma that is the Fairoaks Sanitarium is another kind of horror...you would think it’s purely psychological but Delia and Max are just some proofs there is something else, something malefic going on in there. Just talking about it here is giving me the goosebumps!

18

Stella Landry

I love this book and I’m not saying that just to convince you to read it. I am giving this honest-to-goodness review of how brilliant it is because it is what exactly it deserves. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest, I give it a 5 for the superior composition, fear factor, intelligent writing, imaginative plot, an interesting band of characters, and so much more.

I think that the audience can be wide-ranging. This can appeal to early teens and adults as well. The story revolves around the vampires and other dark creatures that inhabited New Orleans. Another way to put it would be how some of the innocent, as well as the not-so-innocent inhabitants of New Orleans, turned into the immortal beings that are now terrorizing all of them.

Captivating, suspenseful, and surprising: with eloquent prose that brings to life realistic and believable events.

Roxanne knew what nightshade is, her sister Delia was one of them. You could truly feel her trauma, fear, and vexation during the scene between Alice and Kash inside the car. But the plot’s twist made this book more remarkable. The fate of Kash and Alice was unexpected and of course, Roxanne’s deep love for Adam was with emulating although it means death. This group of protagonists has their own stories yet they made a fascinating comeback just in the nick of time. There was always a satisfying touch of thrill and excitement. Each chapter brings a whole new experience. It is an easy read for a horror and suspense fix while trying to relax while still being suspenseful and exciting.

I still can’t get over this book. I am hoping for a sequel? Anyway, Nightshades of New Orleans has everything that is new and unique in its perspective. And by this, I meant that the story is refreshing and it never came to the point where I had to put it down because it was becoming too dragging. What it is really is some kind of high-end psychological thriller that features different characters dealing with different kinds of demons. Evil is both literal and symbolic in this case and that’s what makes it so terrifying exciting.

It is soaked in mystery and it is up to the reader to discover the different truths that surround the lives of the characters, living, dead, or undead. I have only praise for this book and you should take time to read it.

16

Personally, I find Nightshades of New Orleans to be an outstanding novel that is founded on science fiction and yet strategically relevant to reality. There is a thin line between creative and flaky sci-fi and that delicate balance can be a challenge to achieve. That’s the reason why I loved this book because the plot is so sophisticated and well-developed. It felt like reading it was a special privilege because it is not every day that you can come across very good literary material. In addition, character development is profound and wide-ranging. I reveled at each new character that was introduced and whom I have met. This book did not only make me think but feel in the most extraordinary of ways. I love it!

This vampire fantasy novel is not to be underestimated.

If you are a vampire saga enthusiast, you probably hunger for a good story as I have. It is the most fascinating genre for me and yet I also know how it has been used over again that it can grow dull at some point. I thirst for something original and meaningful at the same time.

Nightshades of New Orleans by James Quinn is that longed-for exception. From the characters to the plot twist, it never failed to keep me on the edge of my seat. What’s more? This book is full of mysteries that never let you get off the hook. You don’t know how elated I was to have found it after having been disappointed in the past.

I never got tired nor disappointed reading it.

This is the first adult book I’ve read since I turned 16 and I am glad it was given to me on my birthday. My aunt didn’t probably know what to give me but she knew I was a voracious reader especially of vamp novels and I was happy she trusted my maturity for this kind of material. I had a great time reading it. The story itself stays true to everything vampire but it has surprising twists that appealed to me very much.

Moreover, I like how Roxanne and Alice are so different from each other, and yet they are the best of friends. Roxanne is a margarita and Alice is a coke.
Of course, Roxanne’s parents detested her boyfriend Adam. Though I can relate to these two more than the other characters in the book, I have no doubts recommending it to those interested in reading it.

This has been one helluva roller coaster ride and I meant this was really terrifying! I didn’t really expect much from this book. I just picked it up as I was chillin’ with my friend at his new loft. I’m not even a fan of books especially vampires, immortality, and what have you. I find them shallow and too phony for my taste. But wow! This one from James Quinn is something else. It was nighttime when I read so imagine how doubly scared I was when it was dark all around. The plot twists were so unpredictable that it was like the devil was on my face, staring directly at me! The scariest for me involves Miss Brooks, an old lady killed by a Nightshade. What happened to her in the coroner’s office caught me by surprise and sent shivers down my spine!

Welcome to the epic world of the Nightshades!

Are Nightshades indeed creatures of the night? What are they like during the day? Are they vampires? How do they feed on their victims? How did they come to be?

The Nightshades of New Orleans is a sci-fi masterpiece from James Quinn depicting atypical vampire action. Yes, the vampires bite but it is not without sorrow as their families get torn between feeding their loved one and victimizing another. And New Orleans is such a tight community, it is hard to tell which is a vampire and which is not until it bites, sucks, and devours you. Not only that, the Dark Arts is a welcome practice for some members and the rest cower in fear.

If you are brave enough to enter this world, I invite you to consume this gilt-edge novel.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect from the book as it was just handed down to me but whoa! I was immediately blown after reading the first chapter. That was a real shocker and of course, I continued on to the next chapters with undivided attention. What’s happening amidst the nightshades is to watch out for!

I followed the investigation of the serial killer closely together with the detectives, Governor Hadley, the police, and the rest. Even I wondered how come it’s been three years and they’re not even close to nailing the suspect. The profile fits that of a psychopath, a devil worshipper, or a sexual pervert. But hey, the rest is for you to find out.

I would love to read more from James Quinn!

Too close to home…I was almost too scared to keep reading it. This was awesome from start to finish!

I’ve read and watched numerous vampire stories but nothing as real and as thrilling as the Nightshades of New Orleans. You know it’s fiction but the author has made it so authentic that you will almost believe it to be true. The emotions will run high as you read through the lines. It boasts of a highly imaginative plot, reflecting the author’s sheer talent. It is a mystery thriller and I didn’t even mind the hot romance mixed with it. The range of characters like Baby Sue, the Tasker’s, Dr. Roth, the DA, the Townsend’s, the detectives, and others as well as how their lives are interwoven makes it one helluva novel.

You can’t simply miss this one.

Highly recommended for those looking to enjoy a superb read!

What I like about this vampire-inhabited novel is that it’s never boring or predictable. There is always something going on and I just go from chapter to chapter to find out more. This holds true from the time I finished the first chapter up to the epilogue. My interest did not dwindle at any time as it keeps building up. It tells you how the author, Quinn has executed the vampire story in a non-standard, cliché, or yes, boring way.

My favorite characters are the two detectives, Detectives Trevor Howard and Lana Corsaire. I find both to be quite impressive in their job and the romance that brewed between them was a bit unexpected for me. But whether they found the serial killer or not is for you to find out.

The James Quinn brand of writing is superior, powerful, and worthy of praise.
This was evident in The Vampire's Orchids and was again witnessed here in the Nightshades of New Orleans.

The chase after the serial killer is one of the things that had kept me going through the book. I can almost imagine it as some kind of Netflix series that you just have to finish in one sitting no matter the number of episodes and seasons. It is that much of a page-turner!

The roles of the detectives, coroner, district attorney, geneticist, and the police chief were crucial and how they worked together…and against each other…made for one exciting, new vampire fiction I feel privileged to have completed reading. Thank you so much.

Every aspect of this novel is a sight to behold. I am satisfied to the fullest.

For one, there are numerous chapters in the book but they are short and just right. I like that the author has written it this way because the result is a compelling page-turner you can savor. Secondly, I met a good number of characters but I don’t get confused or easily forget them because each one has an important role to play that has been established well that is easy to recall. Third, I like how the story itself is well-researched, grounded in reality, and very relatable.

Overall, I would like to give this work of fiction 5 solid stars. It made my night!

don’t know why there are evil individuals in our society but when it comes to this novel, I have a candidate for Dr. Roth.

Dr. Otto Roth is a strange, mysterious character who gave me goosebumps. In society, he was sought after for his expertise in neurology, psychiatry, and award-winning genetic advances. To the world, he was a successful geneticist who runs a sanitarium for those needing healing and recovery. However, the Fairoaks Sanitarium is full of suspicious patients including Alfred, his valet. Dr. Roth thinks of his work as his valuable contribution to science not minding studying “the brain of a madman, one of New Yorkʼs most notorious serial killers.”

I am not gonna tell you all because you will find out soon enough once you read the book. But what I’m saying is that this has been more than worth it!

An enthralling and exciting novel from a talented author. It’s a book that proves, blood is thicker than water. All this and more! To anyone who enjoys vampire novels with exhilarating characters, I challenge you to read chapter one and not be absolutely enthralled by the writing. Isn’t it impossible not to be enthralled by it? We don’t frequently come across a book with a story that can both move you to your core and stun you with amazing writing. A novel like Nightshades of New Orleans, can’t be loved or hated because of its beautiful prose. I’ll just say, James Quinn, you did a fantastic job because just when you think you’ve got the end in your mind, the author throws in unexpected twists and turns like crazy. Definitely a great read.

An action-filled novel that is sure going to have you at the edge of your seat the whole time. Because of its compelling scenes and well-drawn characters, I finished this book in just one sitting.

Vampires in New Orleans are regarded as Nightshades. Roxanne, Alice, and the rest of their companions must work together to defeat the infectious evil. At the same time, Lana and Trevor have to be vigilant and prepared to rescue Evan. Every chapter is an experience itself, and it goes from erotic to dark in seconds that you don’t quite expect but should see coming. And it’s compounded with a sense of dark and brutal murders that gets worse as the story progresses. The only qualm I have for this book is that everything came at you fast and hard, not really giving you a chance to sit with it in the end. There was only so much you could do with the major stakes of the book, only so much that you could take in at a time. As such, it didn’t quite stick the landing, despite a spectacular attempt to do so.

James Quinn writes in a mesmerizing style that keeps the readers’ eyes glued to the pages, and their souls bonded with the characters. Perhaps the fact that this book is written with passion and skills is one of the highlights of the book. The realistic approach of the author in delivering the plot gives us a glimpse of what could be inside the mind of the serial killers known as the nightshades.

Though written in fiction, the scenes appeared real like that vampire apocalypse in movies and interestingly, this book portrays how an infection could spread like a virus in the whole city. Police can’t do anything about it. Gruesome murders had the police chasing dust in the beginning. The most exciting part for me was the great earthquake and tsunami. I felt intensified and encouraged to see the cleansing of the whole city by a flood. Although at first, I extremely felt vexation about what the nightshade named Kash was doing to his victims, somehow, the plot has an interesting role for him to play at the end that made me truly admire his character. James did not disappoint me and even exceeded my expectations with this heart-stopping, erotic, and scary novel that filled me with excitement and thrill. I can’t recommend this book enough!

I was actually intrigued by the author’s talent for storytelling in this book. You can really tell that the author is a passionate and talented writer. His attention to the tiniest details of the imagery makes the whole novel easy to picture in the mind’s eye that reading feels like watching a film. James did his homework on the history of his subject and it’s great to see that this book fosters solidarity and compassion within the family despite the circumstance.

The book will take you to a great action adventure of these young teens, and two detectives who sought out and fought the evil master and the Satanists in New Orleans. I was heavily impressed at how well this book was written. Indeed, James Quinn once again proved his ingenuity with this insane masterpiece.

A book with just the right amount of horror, drama, romance, action, and shocking moments that kept me captivated and entertained without being overbearing. I’ve got to admit, I was utterly impressed.

Lana and Trevor’s characters are an inspiration. With all the turmoil and horrific acts happening in New Orleans brought by the evil nightshades, family is all that matters to Lana. Although rescuing Evan was a suicide mission, the plot gives us an exciting twist of events. Moreover, I never expected the appearance of the werewolves. As a result, I was heavily surprised and I liked it. The challenging story of the lives of these protagonists would have you at the edge of your seat wanting to learn more about what’s going to happen next. It’s crazy to think how the vampires in this novel appear to be normal, think normal, and act normal only to find out later that another murder has been committed. Extremely frightening, and a lot of fun to read, Nightshades of New Orleans is a must-have for horror and romance enthusiasts.

The best thing about books, especially novels, is that they bring the readers to a completely different place and time without having to leave the comfort of their reading area. James Quinn’s Nightshades of New Orleans is no exception. I truly enjoyed every part of it. James successfully captivates his readers with his knowledge of vampires and werewolves. The part where Roxanne was ready to become nightshade was highly dramatic and captivating. James is very rich in his language in every conversation, and the description of the scenes is intricately detailed. It’s very arousing, both mind and muscle! His words could simply be called artistic and sensual in a way that just pulls you right in. Right from the start, I was on board. The climactic moments and scenes of the story are further emphasized and dramatized with the magical way James chooses and weaves his words. There’s always something to be thrilled about in every situation in the story.

Nightshades of New Orleans is not for the faint of heart. It was such great fun reading this book. The way he describes the appearance of a setting in such a detailed way creates an incredibly clear image that it feels like I’m watching a movie as I read. The dialogues and body languages of the characters depict each character’s personality very well with no hint of discrepancy.

The story begins with a gruesome murder and while the conflict wraps up at the end of this book, the cliffhanger at the end lets readers know more is to come.

TW may contain profanity, gory murders, and deeply erotic scenes. If these things don’t bother you at all, then this one is for you. It’s definitely something that you would want to take your time reading and savor all the engrossing conversations and plot twists.

A page-turner with both mind and muscle. Its thrills and intrigue are offered up with an equal dose of religion and scientific heft. It carries you along as it makes you reconsider the well-worn facts about vampires and werewolves you thought you understood.

Two best friends and their two lovers, and two detectives, I had the blast reading their adventure in this story as they go and fight the blood-sucking enemies. The intensity of this book is immeasurable!

Evan was held captive to be sacrificed by the Satanists during the wolf moon. Lana and the rest of the team must rescue Evan before it's too late. Read with care. This book contains trigger warnings that may be disturbing to some. Despite its tenterhook experience, Nightshades of New Orleans is an inspiration because it portrays a mother’s love. I strongly recommend this one.

James Quinn transports you to a world of his own invention where monsters, dark magic, and the struggle to survive in an apocalyptic era become the highlight of this book. Through the thrilling existence of Kash and the timely appearance of the Wolf Moon, the prophecy is foretold and is about to be fulfilled which completely shifted the fate of humanity. The prophecy transformed Nightshades of New Orleans into a breathtakingly appealing world of speculative fiction.

James has once again stunned us with his newly created plot and characters with a sense of survival that propels the flow of the story. With its meticulously designed intelligible dialogues, the plot is so easy to imagine that reading is like watching a film.

I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in the novel, despite the fact that it was not my usual read. Despite their differences and fears with regard to their objectives as protagonists, the characters' personalities were woven into the plot’s flow, creating a sense of harmony. I was on board from the first page.

The scene where drunk Roxanne, worried Adam, and fearful Alice got into an accident on their way home gave me goosebumps. I was deeply scared yet very much intrigued about what was going to happen next. I wanted to assist them in their road trip but I was taken on a roller coaster ride of emotion page after page. The action in the novel is steady and exciting as well, with almost frantic moments regularly kicking the pace up to a notch. A major plot twist made me exclaim aloud, I was that surprised. With its entertaining premise and non-stop excitement and action, I strongly recommend Nightshades of New Orleans.

Luke, Myrna, Baby Sue...are they the merciless monsters who haunt the weak of Oakvale, or are they victims of the frightening circumstances that have entrapped New Orleans?

Nightshades of New Orleans is for me an unforgettable book
that sets the bar higher for any fiction that I am going to
read in the future. I believe that it is flawless, making me
wonder how authors like Quinn can even come up with such
a great story and sustain your attention throughout. Pure
talent!
The experience was very cinematic in my mind and I didn't
mind spending my time with each page - I just had to find
out everything that is happening with the characters. I had
to know the fate that was in store for the wealthy Southern
families in New Orleans. I was following the romance that
was brewing between Lana and Trevor. I wanted to know
more about the characters as Dr. Roth's sanitarium and of
their transformation. I want Charlotte to escape from her
perpetrator. I don't know why but I like it that Kash is
pursuing Alice and the latter is attracted to the former as
well even if she doesn't who or what he really is.

This is one truly admirable work.

Nothing like a truly talented author like James Quinn to give you high-quality literary entertainment.I am not one to be easily impressed by a book because I can be very discriminating. I have a good command of the English language and I tend to correct as I read and that is no way to enjoy a book. Fortunately for me, Quinn took charge of that part and I do not have to correct, edit, or cringe as I read because what we have here is a superb reading resource that just lets me relish every part of it.As you go deeper into the book, you will discover how the characters will evolve and how the story evolves in its true meaning.

Nightshades of New Orleans is definitely on my top 10 must-reads

If you should ask why you too should read this book, my answer would be that you will be missing on a lot if you don’t. It has everything that can satisfy any reader. It is mysterious, strange, and definitely compelling. The Southern setting holds its own secrets and intrigue. I don’t know that much about the south of New Orleans so this exquisite novel was a treat for me. As go through reading the book, you begin to discover each and every character’s background, knowing them deeply. Character development is one of this novel’s strongest qualities. The fear is so real but it also leaves you wanting to dig up more to get to the answers that flood your mind.

It is fearfully thought-provoking. This is definitely my new favorite.

Humans evolve and they do not always stay the same but the
question of how they overcome the challenges and transcend
the trauma of something that they cannot change about

If you were Max, would you choose to be a vampire or remain a vulnerable human being?

I mean, if you were a vampire, you can do literally do
anything you want. Who cares if it is aggressive. We humans
have a lot of aggression within us just waiting to be
unleashed. So why restrict yourself?

These were my thoughts when I was reading this awe-
inspiring novel authored by James Quinn. What it is really is
a deeper take into that typical vampire tale that has been
told countless times. I like that it is not only entertaining but
more so experiential and highlighting how it relates to humanity as a whole

The demons created in our past lives are not very forgiving,” goes on one of the most striking lines in the novel that stuck with me. For there are genetic monsters out in New Orleans that should be feared but there are also demons inside our head. Nightshades of New Orleans is not your ordinary fiction novel.

I see it as stark parallelism between the darkness that lies in the internal and external world of humans. While outside in the dark, there are monsters lurking and waiting to pounce, inside our own minds, within our families, and our communities there are scarier monsters that need to be dealt with.

This is an incredibly profound and extraordinarily entertaining piece of work. A must-read for sure.

The depiction of the Tasker family drama is one of my favorite parts of the novel. I’ve always been intrigued by how the rich lived their lives and the Tasker’s are enormously interesting. They do like keeping appearances especially in front of business acquaintances, at least this holds true of Mr. Hugh and Claire Tasker. Meanwhile, their daughter Roxanne is out with her boyfriend Adam. Another daughter Delia is in some sort of insane asylum.

On the other hand, I literally got scared when I read these lines:“They laughed nervously as they began to eat their dinner, oblivious to the gathering forces which would shatter their genteel way of life forever, just as similar forces had done in the distant, but not forgotten past.”I cannot really do justice to how amazing the book is that I have opted to share these exact lines here.

I urge you to witness the Nightshades of New Orleans

With an exhilarating lineup of characters, this outstanding novel was never a drag. It was well-thought-of and carefully planned that the result was a page-turner for a plot. The protagonist who has my attention caught the most is the detective from New York, Trevor Howard. He was the one who was brought in to help finally catch the serial killer which has been haunting New Orleans for years. The mysterious thing about him is that Trevor likewise hails from a high-society Southern family. Meanwhile, his experience is valuable in the investigation and he was smart enough to recognize the role that women’s intuition plays in trying to catch criminals. He is someone you can watch out for.

I recommend Nightshades of New Orleans without an ounce of hesitation

Jude

I love vampire books, and Nightshades has not only the detailed horror that makes you check your closet before you go to sleep, but a host of intricately interesting characters who surprise you at every turn of a page. I appreciated the way he brought the history of New Orleans into the story as well. It gives the reader the experience of the city, even if you have never been there. Quinn's previous book, The Vampires Orchids, shows this writer's ingenious process of bringing forth a concept that is new and different for a vampire story.

Andi

From the first word, this fast moving horror novel had my attention. One of the most original I have read in a long time. Set in New Orleans, amid the backdrop of aristocratic and dynastic families, the Mardi Gras, and a murder investigation, this novel also most enjoyably incorporates a bit of genetic engineering and an interesting immortality theme. The characters are finely drawn and engaging, from all walks of society their lives become entwined even at the surprise of a twist ending. I highly recommend.

This book kept me engaged the whole time! Fast paced is an understatement I couldn’t put it down! The writer captured New Orleans like no one else I felt like I was there!

Greatly written book with an amazing plot and characters that you can root for. I love how the characters complement each other. Their dialogue is top-tier, and they all have different relationships and interactions with each other which gives this book such a diverse and exciting flow. Nigel is such an amazing character to view the sequence of events from, he is the kind of character that the reader can put himself in the shoes of. I really wish that I can see this book get adapted to the big screens. This book has a lot of inventive and cool scenes that look good in my head, and I really want to see them get played out in movies. The author deserves all the credit for this book because it is one of the best historical fiction there is.

Thrilling and extremely meaningful.

This book will give us a lot to think about, not just about the informative things like Egyptian mythology and the history that coincides with it, but also about the team dynamics and power play that can be seen through the characters. I was thrilled with each of the scenes, I was both in love and scared of the Queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra. I was enjoying the dynamic of Nigel, Samara, and Reginald, and I hope to see them all again! The author sure knows how to utilize his words. I was completely hooked from beginning to end, being on the edge of my seat at the thrilling scenes and laughing at the random humor that gets thrown when the current event requires it.

Imaginative and creative, this book will take you to places. I read this book thinking that this was another one of those fantasy books with over-the-top plots and unrealistic events that will make me want to quit mid-chapter, but I was immediately taken aback by how amazing the world-building was, and how the author really tried to ground the events into real historical happenings and realistic events that still somehow have an element of surprise to them. This book offers the best wordplay.

The consistent style of writing and the great dialogue are the things that I really loved about this book. In a way, reading this book did not feel like reading at all, for I absorbed the words easily!

An extraordinary tale of adventure, companionship, and history. It all starts with the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb, a goddess who awakened from her slumber, and a cult that uses two queens in order to further their own cause. Exciting, marvelous, and thrilling—you get everything from reading this book, and you will miss it when you reach the very last chapter. This book truly gives us a view of historical events in a fun way. The diversity of this book is very refreshing to read because we can see the difference in opinions and differences in culture really act out in different settings. Overall, such a wonderful book, one that I will recommend to anyone, regardless of their genre preferences.

The Blue Scarab is a fantasy book that will also serve as a history lesson, what more can you ask? I went into this book with no warning and no spoiler. I had no prior knowledge about Egyptian mythology and I was mostly clueless about the comings and goings of history. This book completely taught me everything that needs to be learned and gave me a wonderful adventure without having to look up each of the new characters that pop up because of how well they are incorporated into the story. The narration of the book is unparalleled. Reading this book feels less than reading and more like watching a movie. The words just create a picture in my head automatically and I don't even need to think about it.

I love how this book somehow makes us informed about different mythologies and histories. Although it centers more on Egyptian mythology, there are nods to Greek Mythology with the mention of the River Styx and the gods that the Greeks worship like Hades. It really made this book realistic because it showed how people vary in faith and believe in different things, as well as how they all can coexist!

I highly recommend this book for history buffs. It has the right amount of history and creativity, and it all ties together well into a great adventure that everyone of all ages, religions, faith and status can enjoy. Kudos to the author for pulling off such an amazing and inspirational book!

I love this book because of the diversity that it offers. It just doesn't stop on showcasing Egyptian mythology alone, it also serves as a ground for showcasing different beliefs and different faiths. The author knows how to weave the stories together, to somehow interconnect each of the beliefs that people have and make it make sense in the context of the story. I live for the mythological and historical references that the author puts in this book. A great mix of creativity and historical accuracy. This book has everything you want in a fantasy story. This has amazing characters, a nice plot, a great pacing, and an overall enjoyable story that you will get lost in, high praises to the author for this!

I happened to dare myself to read something that is out of my genre. I am more on science fiction, more techy stuff because this is what I am interested in and so when I read the title for this book, I literally had no idea where it would lead me. I love how Quinn is so keen on the details, especially when referencing places and events. He makes sure what he puts is believable and if not true, will build a world in our mind so it is not hard to understand. That is a skill not every author has and one of the things that kept me going. It was engaging, both the more subtle scenes and the thrilling ones, the author really nailed it in the writing. What I wish now is to hear more from the characters, especially Sam!

This is probably one of my favorite books as of now. It is very adventurous and it has characters that you can't help but root for. The Blue Scarab tells an interesting tale about Egyptian Mythology and History. James Quinn is an interesting author that tells us everything we need to know and more. I love that the author doesn't force the historical aspect, therefore the sequence of events is still seamless and matches well with whatever is going on in the books. It really makes for a nice experience, it’s the best book I have read in a while. Timeless and fun, I believe that given enough time, this book will turn into a future classic that everyone can see to look at 21st-century literature.

I don’t easily get indulged fully by a book. Because of my schedule, my reading is affected and so I tend to open and close a book even forgetting if I have finished reading it. However, this gives me a new take. Opening this book opened a lot of questions for me. It gives me goosebumps to see Cleopatra in the book, even though I know it's not real. I feel like I have been holding my breath when Nefertiti is in the scene. Never has any book affected me this way for years! The relationship between Nigel and Sam, Sam and her mom, and all the other characters really depicts what it's like in reality, and that's one thing that I also like from this book. It sways us away from reality to fantasy but brings us back.

I had reservations about reading this book. But the more I read on, the more pulled I was by the story and the dynamics presented. I loved the incorporation of the mythologies. I love the nods to different structured religions, and I love the historical references to Rome, the church, and the various historical events that transpired in this book. If you like historical fantasy, read this! It is very well-rooted, you can really tell that the author knows what he is talking about and has researched the topic in order to give us proper recollections of the events that have happened! I love this book and everything it represents. Hopefully, more books will be written like this and we will see more of the author!

This is a fantastic introduction to Egyptian mythology and a fascinating voyage to follow. It has really opened my eyes to new issues that I was previously unaware of or even familiar with. Positively, I was never bored while watching it, and the explanations were thorough. I'm not usually a lover of fiction stories like this, so it's perplexing to me how this one has a different effect on me. It was strange yet familiar, that kind of feeling. The ingenuity, the clarity, and the creativity of its entirety will really build this book to the top and the time will just come for this book to be recognized.

A highly recommended book to read if you want something beyond drama and comedy to watch.

Personally, I found this book too much to absorb reading the first few pages. Its long and descriptive narrations of each event make it flat and boring. The introduction of characters dwells longer than I expected but the longer I stayed, I understood the author’s way of putting it all together that way. The explanations and theories behind the vintage items and the secrets are woven together like it was meant for each other. Quinn really is a man who knows his words. The book was an excellent balance of fiction and reality that will make us truly learn cultural heritages and the history behind them. If you are fascinated with adventure-seeking, history, and mythology, this is the book that you are looking for.

This book tells a tale of history. It centers on archaeologists—Nigel, Samara, and Reginald—as they go through events that would possibly change the whole course of the world. A cult has decided to resurrect two Egyptian queens—Nefertiti and Cleopatra—in order to advance their twisted agendas for world domination. Exciting and extremely thrilling, The Blue Scarab is something that you should check out! There are some ideas in this book that are quite modern but it is rooted in the climate and the context that it is set in so we can really see different perspectives and cultures play out in this book, which I really appreciate. And the plot twists, the excitement, and the thrill are all things that you could look forward to in this book.

This is certainly one of my current favorite books about mythology. It's a striking story with characters you can't help but root for. The Blue Scarab by Quinn is a fascinating story about Egyptian mythology and history, and James Quinn is a fascinating author who gives us everything we need to know and more. He gives us perspective and an open mindset. I appreciate that the author does not force the historical components. The sequence of events is still seamless to read. For me, it is one experience I will never forget. I believe that, given enough time, this book will become a future classic that will inspire everyone to read more of it. Even if you don’t like mythology, you’ll think again after reading one starting with this.

To summarize the events that happened in this book, this book talks about the adventure that archaeologists faced from the sequence of events that led to the interference of Egyptian Goddess Isis.

I love how when I read this book, I don't feel like I'm reading at all. The sequence of events just flows naturally and you get everything from what is being said and you don't need too much context. As someone who loves historical fiction, this book is really great! The diversity of this book is very genuine, the author knows ample information in order to give different beliefs and religions justice which is really vital in writing a story, hands down to James Quinn for such a thrilling story!

What is a blue scarab? That question led me to read and enjoy this whole book experience. As Nefertiti describes, a turquoise blue artifact fits in her hand and is easily placed amongst the King’s possessions at the time of his entombment ascribed with supernatural or metaphysical powers. It sounds majestic, the scarab itself and the way Quinn had put it. This book gives us the pictures that we are looking for in between the descriptions, it really makes us part of the story. This book is an equally amazing discovery as the scarab. It is full of mystery and will fill you with surprises as you venture it. A one-of-a-kind journey that will take you mentally to places where truths are unveiled.

One of the best things that I have read. If you like reading mythological books like Rick Riordan's books, you should give this book a go! This book centers around Egyptian mythology and the happenings in history that a lot of people have forgotten. I love the subtle references that the author puts in this book, and the whole ride just feels so natural and exciting, every chapter makes me look forward to the next events. Reading this book was fun, informative, and entertaining all the way! The author knows how to write such intense scenes and he knows how to utilize his words according to what the scene needs, which is something that one can admire. It is a great book. I wish it will get the recognition it very much deserves.

I have read this narrative plainly because I was curious about how it will turn out.

This is such eye candy to read, with the way the author lays out details and descriptions in every chapter. What makes it more interesting to read are the characters for sure. Nigel and Samara were both characters that readers really root for. They were not one-dimensional, they really added to the overall feeling of the story. I felt at first that the book could be a little flat due to the long narrations, but the characters especially their personalities with a hint of humor made it more enthralling. I definitely would be recommending this to readers, especially to those who are head over heels in Egyptian mythology and mystery.

There are 2 things I like about this book.

The first thing I like about The Blue Scarab is the character dynamics. I loved reading the book in the eyes of Nigel. He is very resourceful and he is able to take on problems with rational solutions in mind. I love how despite the many wrong things that kept happening in the book, he was able to resolve them in the best way he knew how. Utilizing his skills as an archaeologist and his years of experience in order to defeat his adversaries. The second thing I like about this book is how it draws the readers in. I was engulfed with words and was lost in the whole context of this book. Literally, I am so happy to have stumbled upon this book because it has given me a comfort book that I will read when nothing makes me want to read!

There are a lot of things that are great about this book but my favorite is the characters. They are very likable, and they offer so much depth to the book. From their top-tier interactions to how well their relationships developed throughout the entire story, the author knows how to write characters that leave an impact on the readers. I will forever miss the interaction between the characters, and I hope to see more of them in the author's future works. This book seriously deserves more recognition. With the diversity, the representation, the accuracy, and especially the creativity, one could not go wrong with picking up a James Quinn book. I really hope there will be more of this and this is just a part of a series of adventures that is yet to unfold.

I have so many good things to write about this book, from the extensive world-building to the great writing; but probably my favorite part is the amazing characters that really make this book so interesting and easy to read. I love the dynamics between Nigel and Samara, they are really the definition of people who work together and listen to each other in order to achieve their common goal.

I would give up anything just to read this book for the first time again. James Quinn has created such a wonderful world and I wish that there is more of it where it came from because I am craving for more of his historical stories and more of Nigel’s adventures!

If you are someone who loves adventure, this book might interest you! The first part of the book focuses more on details. We get to know the context of the story and the characters, then it leads us to a deeper understanding of where we are headed in the plot. I have read books that tackled Egyptian maps and gods but this particular book gives me a different kind of adventure. We can learn to love and treasure antiques as much as we love the history behind them. There are a lot of symbols that need a deeper understanding than the surface of the pages. I can say that I’ll give this book a read again if I have the chance.

Theo Stewart

The way the story unfolds comes fast-paced, as we are being led to the truths that uncover along the pages. I love the thrill every time I skip the pages. I can sense how the book gives us all the information and then takes it back, making us form our own questions to ourselves. The appearance of Cleopatra and Queen Nefertiti truly makes me giddy, and I look forward to what character they have to play. This is different from the other fiction books which give us plain fiction with a predicted plot, I have to say this is remarkably written to educate, to let us explore, and to entertain us all in one.

This is worth every moment I spent reading it!

A marvelous adventure that will take us on a tour of history, The Blue Scarab tells a thrilling tale of Egyptian gods, goddesses, queens, and archeologists from long lines of explorers. I love how this book is told, the sequence of events is properly laid out and we get to see a variety of principles and lessons from what each of the characters can offer. I was hooked from the very beginning, and I anticipated every event from the beginning up until the end! I love how the author writes, he is able to capture the attention of the readers through his sentences and keep the momentum alive through the thrilling scenes and calm scenes. It really goes to show his greatness in what he does.

What a fantastic book ride! I can't help but feel butterflies in my stomach as I watch Nigel stare at Samara, the girl he had fallen hopelessly in love with. My favorite part of their duo was when Nigel is translating hieroglyphics and Sam is just listening to and visualizing the poetic sound of the events of Caesar’s death. The scene just felt so in love, and I can feel them being passionate with each other.

The author’s clarity in writing makes the series of events more understandable and fascinating to listen to. Aside from the quest itself, there are a lot of stories in between that make reading more fun. A fascinating and gripping tale that is highly recommended to all.

A fast-paced tale that will get you on the edge of your seats, James Quinn's The Blue Scarab is everything that you want in a fantasy book and more. This book is set in Egypt, hurdled by unrest from a cult who used dark magic to revive two queens from their eternal slumber. The sequence of events has led to the interference of gods and legends alike, all unfolding from the eyes of archaeologists who come from rich pasts. The dialogue is top-tier, you can really see the progression of how Nigel talks to other people from when he met him first to where it went to when he got comfortable. Each character has their own style and the consistency of it really made me read more.

This is a fascinating adventure to follow and a great introduction to Egyptian mythology. It has really opened my eyes to a new subject that I haven’t really taken notice of before. I was never left a little bored, and the explanations were well done. I was not really a fan of fiction stories like this and so it puzzles me up until now how this story amazes me in a different way. I liked the writing, I think I might pick up another book from Quinn after this. The innovation, the storytelling, and how the puzzles are put together are enthralling to experience. This book has a different appeal than other related books, it really makes our minds explore and wander. Such a great find!

Honestly, the book is new to me as I am more into non-fiction books, so I was really having second thoughts about it. When the book unveiled Tutankhamen’s tomb, my curiosity arose, especially when the opposing sides of Isis and Osiris appeared. I did not know fiction could be such a heart-throbbing experience. Mixed feelings! I felt the love, the passion, the thrill, and the excitement in every chapter and I found myself seeking more. This is really a book that will make us feel alive while reading.

Never had a dull moment with this book. The author really knows what he is talking about and that alone is passion and commitment that can’t be seen in the pages alone.

As someone who collects vintage pieces personally, I wished I could have seen the pieces that are beautifully described by the author. I can really relate to that elated feeling of being able to recognize the pieces and see them in person. I love the character of Sam, she seemed demure at the same time and knows where her stand is. The book is as is, the events are just arranged naturally how they happened, and the transitions moved smoothly. I really am a fan of history, and reading this in detail is a whole new story to tell. I can tell that this book is really hard work for the author, how he pieces them one by one to create the world he wants us to be in.

The Blue Scarab is a story that you should not be missing. We are taught here that sometimes, we tend to do even the unbelievable just to achieve what we want to attain by any means we can think of.

Because of their desire for dominance and to win the battle, they have decided to bring the Goddess Nefertiti and Cleopatra. If you want to find out what may happen next, you certainly should read the book. More thrilling, more adventure awaits as you read further. For me, saying that I love it is an understatement for how I felt in this book. This has really opened my mind to read more about Greek and Egypt and their deeper tales.

As well as to those determined souls who have risked all in seeking treasure...and discovering it when least expected.

A book tells us so much about the author, and I can say by reading this book that I have met a part of James Quinn. The dedication poured in making this book as one is overflowing, we can see that in how he narrates. We can see the love in writing as even someone like me who is not familiar with Egypt and its stories, I have learned to love it and would be honored to read more of it. There is a lot more to discover and appreciate when it comes to treasures, may it be vintage pieces or history. A great book that is highly recommended!

The Blue Scarab by James Quinn is a fantasy book that shows Egyptian Mythology and a world with a threat from a cult that plans to revive two queens—Nefertiti and Cleopatra. In this book, we get to see intensive history play out with a nod to Roman history and Catholic culture, making us more acquainted with the vast expanse of our history while still being in an incredible adventure to save the world from impending doom. 10/10 would highly recommend it, James Quinn has provided us with an amazing story with an innovative plot line and action scenes that will surely draw in the readers from the very first chapter of the book and up until the very last words.

A one-of-a-kind fiction that takes us back to early Egypt with its unveiled secrets and secret passages. I read this book having only little to no knowledge about mythology, let alone, the history of Egypt. But I found myself enjoying its fast-paced storyline and the new adventure that is offered. The way the story unfolds is unique, as we get to discover new places and characters with new roles to play. I was just amazed at how creative the author is in building the world and making us live in it with awe. I really appreciated how this book turned out and I am certain people who love to read mythology and goddesses would find this book breathtaking!

One of the things that I really look for in the book is how the characters are built, and what type of characters they are. Some tend to be static and flat all throughout, and while it is not bad that one can be that type, sometimes more of them like that can really bring the story down. It's all about character dynamics, and how each of them complements the other. In this story, we see Nigel and Samara learning from each other and helping each other grow. I hope we get to see this being adapted into movies and pay honor to how detailed the book is. With the pacing, the characters, and the writing skills, this book deserves more recognition from other readers!

“I love the Egyptian skies. The brilliant sunsets and the glorious stars lighting up the heavens."

Stories with detailed descriptions make a picturesque book. We tend to feel closer to characters as if we are close to them, and with them, as they venture their quest. I personally love the character of Nigel. He seems to be a heroic type with a balance of humor and resourcefulness. His optimism really paved the way no matter what problems they are faced with. I trust his character, and from beginning to end, I really rooted for him! He is passionate both about being a lover to Sam and as the main character. This book is a fast-paced adventure that takes us to a world of wonders and madness. I love the whole point of this book, I love that it offers a lot in the synopsis and it totally delivers with the execution of it. I love the chills that I feel when it mentions Cleopatra and Nefertiti. I believe that the author really gave justice to the historical figures that it wished to represent. It is rare to find a book that is engaging enough to keep you reading, and this book pulled it off. This book is probably one of my favorite historical fiction, and I do hope to hear more from the main characters with their different conquests in their fields.

I haven’t had this much enjoyment and satisfaction in a book in a long time of reading. The book is a center balance of entertainment and thriller. An absolute ride!

The book started in the deserts of Cairo, Egypt with Cleopatra in the frame with scenes ending in the burying of the royal chamber for over centuries. Then comes Nigel Ellis saving Samara Wylde from the falling sarcophagus. This book gives us unexpected turnabouts and twists, and what I also like about the author is his swift transitions between the chapters. Quinn also has clarity in his writing that makes readers trust the process until the closing of the book. Not a bad thing to say about this book.

A great book is created through great characters. This book has one of the best characters that I have read, the scary characters really give grimness and goosebumps to the readers, and Isis really captures the divine and scary vibe that goddesses have. I love the relationship between Nigel and Samara, they have mutual respect for each other and they work so well with their shared knowledge and admiration for each other. I am in love with this book, it is currently my favorite book of all time. Nefertiti in full royal attire, adorned with a blue headdress, walked solemnly into the secret inner sanctum dedicated to Isis, in her Northern Palace, …

What I adore about this book is its careful attention to detail. We go along the words of James Quinn and in between the paragraphs of the book, he builds us a world like no other. I am certainly in a state of shock, I really appreciate authors like him who give us more than what we expect. With his narration and how he plays with his description, everyone will be vying to see Nefertiti walking in her royal attire and royal palace. How amazing is the power of words, it gives us wonder in our imagination!
